PR: Griffin updates iMate

Nashville, TN – March 1, 2000

Imate

Griffin Technology, Inc. today released an updated beta version of their
iMate USB driver for the iMate universal USB to ADB adapter. The new 2.0b1
version of the driver adds support for more ADB devices, adds hot
pluggability, includes a new control panel, and fixes some small problems.

With the hot pluggable support, the iMate adapter provides greater
compatibility and usability than built in ADB on previous Macs. The new
version allows devices such as hardware protection dongles, color
calibrators, and many other specialized ADB devices to be hot plugged and
used immediately. On previous Macs with built in ADB hot plugging these
types of devices was not possible but instead required the computer to be
powered down the device attached and then the computer to be powered up
again.

The new version of the iMate driver also supports more devices and should
be more stable for some other devices. A few additional hardware protection
dongles are supported with this version of the iMate. Also the Xrite
Colortron II and Kernel Productions JoyPort now work properly without
making modifications to the iMate driver. A problem with Kensington
trackballs where the trackball would sometimes lose it’s custom buttons
after a period of time is resolved in this version. Also this version of
the iMate driver has some other small fixes like an idle problem that would
sometimes occur with certain System and USB versions.

The iMate driver now comes with a control panel to control settings of the
iMate hardware and iMate driver. This allows users to easily change
settings like the ADB Polling speed to optimize performance or improve
compatibility.

The iMate universal USB to ADB adapter allows over 300 existing ADB devices
to be used with iMacs, Lombard PowerBooks G3s, G4s, and iBooks. It supports
a wide range of devices including, mice, keyboards, trackballs, trackpads,
joysticks, hardware protection dongles, keyboards, bar code readers,
drawing tablets, AppleVision/ColorSync/Studio Display monitors, special
